Avoid the 2AM chirp
Smoke Detector Battery Replacement Service
Changing alarm batteries sounds simple until the alarms are high, interconnected, hardwired or spread across several levels. Detector Inspectors can replace standard batteries while cleaning, testing and inspecting the complete detector set.
Battery replacement is only one step
A fresh battery does not reset the age of the alarm or prove that the sensing chamber is clean. A proper maintenance visit pairs battery replacement with a test, a date check and a visual inspection so an expired or damaged detector is not mistaken for a battery problem.
Hardwired alarms still need backup power
A hardwired alarm normally has backup power for outages. Some models use replaceable batteries; the First Alert models Detector Inspectors installs use sealed 10-year backups. The right maintenance step depends on the model already in the home.
If the chirp returns
A repeated chirp after a correct battery change can point to an improperly seated battery, an end-of-life signal, contamination or a different alarm in the home. Do not assume the nearest unit is the one making the sound. A room-by-room check is often faster than guessing.
