Protection from an invisible hazard
Carbon Monoxide Detector Service
Carbon monoxide cannot be seen or smelled. A focused detector visit helps homeowners identify their CO alarms, test them, check their dates and understand whether sleeping areas and levels have appropriate coverage.
Where CO protection belongs
CPSC guidance recommends carbon monoxide alarms on each level of the home and outside sleeping areas. Colorado law adds specific requirements for covered homes, including operational alarms within 15 feet of bedroom entrances or where an adopted code specifies.
Replacement age varies by model
Unlike the widely used ten-year rule for smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarm life varies. NFPA guidance says to replace CO alarms within the manufacturer’s stated life, commonly five to ten years. Read the label on the exact device.
When an alarm sounds
Never treat a sounding CO alarm as a maintenance appointment. Move everyone to fresh air, call 911 and follow emergency instructions. Do not re-enter to search for the source. Routine Detector Inspectors service is for maintenance and replacement, not emergency response.
